Deep Packet Inspection (DPI)
Jio scans network traffic to identify VPN protocols like OpenVPN and WireGuard. When detected, the connection is throttled or dropped.
CERT-In 2022 regulations
Indian regulations require VPN providers to keep logs. This pushed some VPN providers to shut Indian servers — not Jio blocking the app itself.
Peak-hour throttling
Jio throttles high-bandwidth connections at peak hours (6–11pm). VPN traffic on standard ports gets flagged first.

Jio blocks protocols, not app names. AdGuard VPN's proprietary protocol is designed to look like regular HTTPS traffic — the same protocol used by websites. Jio cannot easily block it without also breaking normal web browsing.
Try these in order — most users are fixed after step 2:
Switch protocol to QUIC
Open AdGuard VPN → Settings → VPN Protocol → select QUIC. This is the hardest protocol for Jio's DPI to detect.
Change server
Tap the server selector and choose Singapore (closest fast server to India) or Mumbai. Avoid servers that are at high load (shown in the app).
Try at off-peak hours
Jio throttling is worst 6–11pm. Try connecting before 9am or after 11pm to confirm if throttling is the issue.
Switch from 4G to Wi-Fi
If on Jio mobile data, try switching to JioFiber or another Wi-Fi connection. Different network paths can bypass throttling.
Reinstall the app
If none of the above helps, uninstall and reinstall AdGuard VPN from the Play Store or App Store. This resets all connection settings.
